Spurgeon XC kicked off their second season as a program with determined showings across both the women's and men's races this past weekend.
Women's 5K Run
The Knights' women were led by freshman Makayla Goff, who clocked 23:34.23 for a 77th-place finish, setting the pace for Spurgeon. Senior Abigail Avery followed closely behind in 78th with a time of 23:49.67, providing steady veteran leadership.
Freshman Adah Barmann (80th, 23:56.17) kept the Knights under the 24-minute mark once again, while junior Abbygale King came through in 82nd at 24:27.71. Junior Lilli Williams rounded out the lineup in 91st with a time of 33:47.00.
With their combined efforts, the Spurgeon women's team qualified for the national meet, a milestone in just their second season.
Men's 4-Mile Run
On the men's side, senior Patrick De Ronde led the way with a time of 23:32.28, finishing 94th overall. Freshmen Zechariah Slater (98th, 24:11.13) and Eli Escen (99th, 24:11.14) ran side by side, showing competitive promise.
Freshman Ethan Rodgers crossed in 28:26.68, senior Grant Smith in 29:14.22, and freshman Isaac Dulek in 32:07.61, rounding out the Knights' men's squad.
