Women's Volleyball Cruises to Victory against Kansas Christian

Women's Volleyball Cruises to Victory against Kansas Christian

Summary:

The Knights Volleyball played against Kansas Christian on Sept. 5th on their court in Overland Park. There were eighty people in attendance, which was impressive as the gym's air conditioning had gone out, much to the players' dismay. Yet the Knights took to the court with absolute resolve. They kept control of the ball, achieving a fierce victory in each of the three sets. The display of the Knights' dedication and skill was a sight to behold and an exciting event for all Spurgeon supporters.

How it Happened:

  • The first set was marked by a series of stunning kills by the Knights while Kansas Christian scrambled for the ball. Almost every player showed their full strength, winning the set 25-8.

  • In the second set, Kansas Christian was more ready. A series of errors by the Knights allowed the opponents to catch up. Realizing their over-confidence, the Knights regrouped.

  • The score remained close, each team matching point for point. Slowly, steadily, the Knights took back the lead. They won the second set 25-21.

  • At this point, the heat and stuffiness in the gym were growing unbearable. The Knights were determined to end the game quickly.

  • At the start of the third set, Kansas Christian lost the serving advantage, and the Knights seized the opportunity. They were up eight points easily, leveling Kansas Christian.

  • Yet again, Kansas Christian rallied, but the Knights battled ahead. The game was won with two kills by the Knights, the first by Janie Wilson and the second by Lizzie Deaton.

Highlights:

  • In terms of attacking players, Lizzie Deaton dominated (again) with eighteen kills through the three sets.

  • Timry Goodman made twenty-four assists, eight kills, seven digs, and three service aces. She showed her fighting spirit and key support throughout the game.

  • Janie Wilson's stats were similar to Goodman's. She had seven kills, nine digs, and three service aces, showing her flexibility and skill in defense and offense.

  • The victory was a much-needed boost in optimism and energy for the team. Spurgeon is very proud of their volleyball Knights!
