A week before this match, the Lady Knights had a five-set face-off against Emmaus Bible on their opponent's home court. The Knights narrowly lost, so on September 13
th, the Mathena Student Center was full of excitement as Spurgeon fans came to watch and cheer. Despite the Knights' relentless effort, Emmaus emerged as the winner. The match was an exhilarating show of grit and determination from both teams.

How it Happened:
- The Knights began the first set with a determined attack, which opened a dramatic back and forth between the two teams. Each inched forward, before being promptly overtaken. Emmaus, however, managed to secure the set with a score of 25-21.
- Emmaus took advantage of Spurgeon's discouragement in the following game. Despite a few spectacular saves and kills from Spurgeon, Emmaus clinched the set at 25-10.
- In the third set, the Knights ralied. They came back strong, outscoring Emmaus 25-19. The Knights' impressive offensive effort was led by Janie Wilson who, assisted by Timry Goodman, made significant kills.
- Spurgeon carried this momentum into the fourth set, outperforming Emmaus again with a score of 25-22. This set showcased the team's fighting spirit and their unwavering commitment to the game.
- The deciding fifth set was tense and exciting. Both teams gave their all, going into overtime. Each score was met by the opponent. Spurgeon fought hard, but in the end, Emmaus managed to edge them out with a score of 22-20.

Highlights:
- Lizzie Deaton and Janie Wilson worked together with crucial kills through the match. Deaton ended with 17 total and Wilson made 15. Wilson also had 3 service aces, a stat shared with Faith Simmons and Hailey Campbell
- Timry Goodman's assists (37) were vital to the Knights' offense. Her efforts kept them in the game and provided some of the most exciting moments of the match.
- Faith Simmons, Lizzie Deaton, and Lydia Swartz were also on top of defense. Simmons led in number of digs with 24, but Deaton and Swartz followed with 20 and 15 respectively.
- Despite the loss, the commitment and resilience shown by Spurgeon College were commendable.
