Spurgeon College kept its perfect start alive with a 118 98 win over Champion Christian on Tuesday night at the Mathena Student Center in Gladstone. The Knights put up 58 first-half points to build a cushion, then continued to pour it on with 60 more after the break, overwhelming the Tigers with interior scoring, ball movement, and relentless tempo.
How it was won
Spurgeon controlled the game with efficient offense and constant pressure. The Knights shot 53.9 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from three, piling up 72 points in the paint and 28 fast break points. Every time Champion Christian made a push, Spurgeon answered with another run, often sparked by stops on defense and quick outlets into transition.
Jack Chamberlin and Joseph Allen set the tone early inside, dominating the glass and finishing at the rim. In the backcourt, Trenton Page attacked off the bounce and stretched the defense, while Raven Ortiz energized the second unit with pace, playmaking, and timely shot making. Bishop Duffield and the bench mob helped keep the pressure on as the Knights extended the lead to as many as 26 in the second half.
Champion Christian got big nights from Josh Bartig (24 points) and Damian Bohlman (18 points, 9 assists), along with balanced scoring across the roster, but the Knights size, depth, and efficiency were too much over 40 minutes.
