Knights’ Dominating Performance Against Central Christian

In an exhilarating volleyball showdown on September 21, 2024, the Spurgeon College Knights triumphed over Central Christian University in straight sets, securing a 3-0 victory at the Barclay Gym in Haviland, KS.
 
How it Happened:

The first set was a rollercoaster, with Central Christian briefly gaining momentum. However, a stunning service ace from Lydia Swartz shifted the tide. The Knights continued to apply pressure, with timely kills from Timry Goodman and blocks from Lizzie Deaton and Josephine Dull solidifying their defense. With the score at 20-18 in favor of Central Christian, the Knights called a timeout. This proved pivotal, as they returned to the court. Josephine Dull's powerful kill and successive aces from Swartz and Dull clinched the set 25-18.  
 
The second set opened with a kill from Lydia Swartz, setting the Knights in motion with a 1-0 lead. However, Central Christian rallied, inching forward through the set. The Knights maintained composure. Spurgeon's effective serves and a standout performance from Goodman, who recorded multiple assists, propelled them to a 25-20 victory.
 
In the final set, Spurgeon continued their momentum, capitalizing on Central Christian's errors and maintaining an aggressive offense. The Knights closed out the match at 25-15, with a series of kills from Deaton and strong defensive plays.
 
Highlights
  • An offensive powerhouse, Lizzie Deaton recorded 14 kills, leading the Knights' attack. Her presence at the net was a constant threat to the Central Christian defense.
  • Timry Goodman contributed 30 assists, 6 service aces, and 4 kills, proving crucial in orchestrating the Knights' offensive plays.
  • Freshman Lydia Swartz had 5 service aces and a kill.  An excellent performance for one of our new athletes!
  • The Knights recorded 54 total points, calmly capitalizing on Central Christian's mistakes and exhibiting effective blocking and defensive plays.
