Spurgeon College Makes a Clean Sweep!

The Mathena Student Center in Gladstone, MO was abuzz with anticipation as family, friends, and fans gathered to witness a thrilling volleyball showdown. Spurgeon College Knights made a clean sweep against Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU), demonstrating their tenacity, skill, and teamwork in this riveting match.
 
How it Happened:
 
The opening points of the match remained close together, the Knights giving and taking pretty equally until the Knights' 16th point, which was followed by an unstoppable streak of points that was only interrupted a couple of times. The set ended for the Knights 25-15 with a kill from Janie Wilson.
 
The second set opened with the Knights' momentum holding as Lizzie Deaton struck a kill and Timry Goodman made two service aces in a row. Yet the latter half saw SWAU bounce back slightly, pushing the Knights to fight harder. Every girl on the Spurgeon team gave it their all. The Knights held their ground and secured the set 25-22.
 
The final set opened with four straight points from the Knights—a kill by Wilson, two kills by Deaton, and a service ace from Goodman. SWAU put up a fight, but the Knights cruised ahead unyielding. They eventually clinched the set and the match 25-18.
 
Highlights:
  • Lizzie Deaton was a force to be reckoned with on the court. She led the game in kills (11), demonstrating her offensive prowess. Annaliese Barnes was close behind with 8.
  • Janie Wilson shone with her serve, scoring 5 service aces. Her contributions were instrumental in the Knights securing their win.
  • Timry Goodman's exceptional setting skills were on full display as she made 26 assists and cementing her place as a crucial team player.
  • Madison Moyer put up a formidable defense, contributing four block assists (along with Timry Goodman). Their efforts ensured that the Knights had a solid wall against SWAU's attacks.
  • The entire team's hard work, determination, and team spirit were evident throughout the match. This victory was a true team effort, and the Knights have certainly set the bar high for their upcoming games.
