Triumphant Takeover for Spurgeon College!

Summary:

On Tuesday, September 3rd, Spurgeon witnessed an electrifying volleyball match as the Knights took on Kansas Christian College. The Spurgeon supporters were rewarded with a thrilling 3-set victory. The Lady Knights dominated the court, demonstrating their teamwork and hustle.

How it Happened:

Janie Wilson secured the first point of a serve assisted by Timry Goodman, setting the course for the first set. The Knights swiftly moved ahead. Their advancement left KCC discouraged, allowing the Knights to capitalize on their advantage with more kills and service aces.

The second set was a testament to Spurgeon's cohesion and strategic prowess. Wilson and Lizzie Deaton produced a series of kills while Goodman served to open the game. Despite a brief resurgence from KCC, Spurgeon maintained their lead, finishing the set with a score of 25-18.

But the third set surpassed the previous two, shocking the onlookers. Spurgeon came out strong again, advancing to a seven-point difference in a short amount of time, but KCC began creeping back up. At the 21st point, KCC inched ahead of the Knights, but Spurgeon quickly retaliated. The back and forth continued well into overtime, with each point fiercely contested. However, Spurgeon remained unflustered under pressure. A final block by Lizzie Deaton led Spurgeon to a set win of 33-31 and secured the match victory.

Highlights:
  • Lizzie Deaton's performance was pivotal to Spurgeon's success. Her kills, 16 in total, put Spurgeon on the front foot. She also had three blocks and a couple of service aces. Janie Wilson followed close behind with 10 kills and 2 blocks.

  • Timry Goodman deserves a special mention for her exceptional assists (37), setting up numerous scoring opportunities. She also made the most service aces (4).
