Spurgeon College earned a 3-1 victory over Ozark Christian College on Tuesday, September 15, at Mathena Student Center, improving to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Shannon Skinner led the Knights with 18 kills and 22 digs in the 25-17, 20-25, 25-11, 25-23 win.
After splitting the opening two sets, Spurgeon responded with its most decisive set of the evening before closing out a competitive fourth. The Knights finished with advantages in kills, digs and service aces, giving the home crowd of 128 plenty to cheer.
THE RUNDOWN
Spurgeon opened with 14 kills and a .200 hitting percentage in the first set, taking a 25-17 win while limiting Ozark Christian to seven kills. The visitors answered in the second, putting down 14 kills of their own and winning 25-20 to even the match.
The Knights regained control in the third, recording 12 kills while Ozark Christian finished with four kills and 10 attack errors. Spurgeon's 25-11 victory put the home side one set away from finishing the match.
The fourth featured seven ties and three lead changes, but Spurgeon secured the 25-23 result behind 14 kills and a .219 hitting percentage. Charis Goodell finished with 50 assists, while Madison Byers contributed 12 kills on .391 hitting, three aces and four block assists.
