Kansas City, Mo. – After a rough start to the season, the Spurgeon Knights (1-1-0) capitalized on their match Friday against CCCB (1-1-0) on the road with a 2-1 victory. They were led by their co-captain,
Armando Rodriguez, and
Chris Alsano, who scored the goal that would eventually secure their first win in their program's history.
How it Happened
- In the twenty-third minute of the match, CCCB was able to get the Knights' defense out of position and Cruz Mendoza was able to get a shot off at the top of the box to put them up 1-0 midway through the first half.
- The Knights would go scoreless in the first half but a corner in the sixty-sixth minute would set them up with chance to score. Samad Hashmi took the corner but regained possession after the first cross in. Hashmi made a move down the goal line and found Rodriguez in the box for a one touch score that tied the game at 1-1.
- In the seventy-fifth minute Ethan Morales played a through ball up the left wing to co-captain, Jared Dean. Dean made a run at goal on the left but found Alsano in the middle of the box waiting to finish. Alsano wasted no time and seized the opportunity to score the goal that would eventually secure the victory for the Spurgeon Knights.

"We were able to connect some passes in the second half and we started physically to assert our dominance. This made the difference in the match and led to both goals. We helped ourselves get in better positions to be successful."
