Box Score Kansas City, MO – The Spurgeon Knights took the field for the first time this season against the Manhattan Thunder.
Early in the first half, the Knights possessed the ball well and quickly had several goal-scoring opportunities. Then, on a corner kick, right back
Jackson Mohn made a run to the front post, got up in the air, and scored, putting the Knights up 1-0 against the Thunder.
Abner Antonio was credited with the assist. The Knights held the lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Manhattan came out strong and played hard, seeking an equalizer, which they got about halfway through the second half, making the score 1-1. With just 15 minutes left on the clock, the Knights gave up a free kick 10 yards outside the box which the Thunder then scored, making the score 2-1 in favor of MCC.
In the final 15 minutes, the Knights had several goal-scoring opportunities but could not put one in the back of the net. The game's final score was 2-1, Manhattan Christian College.
The Spurgeon Knights' record is now 0-1-0.
After the game, Coach Risher said, "It is always difficult to lose a lead in the second half. We will watch the film and work on improving throughout the season."
The Knights will retake the field on September 2
nd against Ozark Christian College.
