Box Score Kansas City, MO – The Spurgeon Knights took the field for the first time in program history on August 26
th against the Manhattan Thunder.
Very early on in the game, the Knights began to dominate possession and had several goal-scoring opportunities. Finally, striker,
Elizabeth Bishop, got received a through ball from
Isabel Inchaustegui and put the ball in the back of the net putting the Knights up 1-0. Later in the first half, Beth got through and once again scored for the Knights making the scored 2-0.
Haeley Gallegos was credited with an assist.
Just before the whistle ended the half, the Thunder was able to break through and score, ending the half with the Knights in the lead 2-1.
The second half began much like the first with the Knights dominating possession. During the half, midfielder,
Haeley Gallegos, scored two goals putting the Knights up 4-1 over the Thunder. Goalkeeper,
Hannah Montgomery was able to block several shots throughout the second half, keeping the Knights in the lead until the final whistle was blown.
After the game, Coach Will said "it was good to see them come out, play as a unit, play together, encourage each other" and "I'm excited to see where we're going!"
The Knights will take the field again on September 15
th against Faith Baptist Bible College
