Spurgeon College volleyball finished its season on a high note Tuesday night, earning a hard-fought 3–2 win on the road over Southwestern Adventist in Keene, Texas. The Knights battled through momentum swings and long rallies, taking the match with set scores of 18–25, 25–21, 23–25, 25–19, and 18–16.
Slow Start, Strong Response
Southwestern Adventist came out fast in the opening set, but Spurgeon settled in and responded in set two. Behind steady ball control and improved attack rhythm, the Knights evened the match 1–1.
After dropping a tight third set, Spurgeon delivered a determined performance in the fourth. The Knights cleaned up errors, applied pressure from the service line, and forced the match to a deciding fifth set.
Fifth Set Fight
The final set was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to separate by more than two points. Spurgeon showed composure in the closing rallies, finishing the match 18–16 to secure the road victory.
Knights Leaders
Middle hitter Vivien Baker led the Knights with 13 kills while also contributing defensively with five blocks. Madison Moyer added six kills and six total blocks, providing key plays at the net. Outside hitter Josephine Dull finished with nine kills, while Naomi Gibler added five kills and four service aces to spark the Knights from the service line.
Defensively, libero Lydia Swartz anchored the back row with 54 digs, controlling the passing and defensive rhythm throughout the match. Setter Charis Goodell recorded 29 assists to guide the offense.
