Spurgeon College Knights volleyball put together a memorable showing on Friday at the Mathena Student Center in Gladstone, Missouri, sweeping their first opponent before clawing back to win a five-set thriller in their second match of the day. The two victories marked a turning point for the Knights as they continue to gain confidence and cohesion this season.
Confident Sweep to Start the Day
Spurgeon opened the day with a poised, businesslike performance, earning a clean 3–1 sweep. The Knights controlled the pace from the opening serve, using strong serving and balanced offense to stay in rhythm throughout the match. Their energy and precision at the net set the tone for the rest of the day.
Five-Set Comeback to Close It Out
The second match demanded every ounce of grit the Knights had. After dropping the first set 25–19, Spurgeon answered with a sharp 25–18 win in the second. A narrow 25–22 setback in the third put them on the ropes, but the Knights refused to fold—storming back to win the fourth 25–23 and forcing a decisive fifth set.
With momentum on their side, Spurgeon stayed composed in the clutch, pulling ahead early and finishing strong for a 15–12 victory to seal the 3–2 match win and their second victory of the day.
